1937: Serial No. 258462, File No. L. 2842, Issue Number 1.1., U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Navigation and Steamboat Inspection License to operate/navigate vessels not exceeding 65' in length or 15 gross tons, motorized, carrying passengers for hire. Valid for 5 years. Dated 28 September 1937. Original in family file.

University 1942 B.A.. Entered USN Officer Candidate Training immediately after completing final exams. Did not attend graduation. Shipped out to WWII Pacific theater aboard PC585. At time of release, was Commanding Officer, USS. Lovelace (DE 198). After WWII, returned to Stanford Law School and graduated 1949 L.L.B..
Barred in Hawaii and California. During career, worked as deputy attorney general for Territory of Hawaii, Corporation Council for Oahu and Maui counties, and private practice. Liked Maritime law, also qualified in Cannon law (Catholic).

Instructor in Business and Real Estate Law, University of Hawaii (ca. 1953), Committee of Bar Examiners for Supreme Court of Hawaii, Pres. Junior Bar Association and member of Ethics Committee for Bar Assn. of Hawaii.

During school summer vacations, worked through construction trades and rose to level of finish carpenter. Also earned Master's Mate's certification 60 ton license.

Was first male girl scout leader (with wife Mary). High school age girls with sea affiliation (sea scouts), taught many girls to row, sail, navigate etc. Girls used Guy Nelson Rothwell's 50' motor sailer "Mele" for annual trips between islands, doing their own navigation etc. The girls liked his spooky Hawaiian ghost stories the best.
