Notes for Elmer Thomas CROSBY

Per his son Elmer T. Crosby Jr.:
Born Seattle area (Prob Renton, per census records)

Divorced from Mary Lorenz ca 1935/1936. He died shortly thereafter, according to his son Elmer.

May 17-26 2002 visit to Seattle:
Death certificate states that the funeral home was Stokes, funeral director Arthur Rasmussen, cremation by Washelli's. In the Polk's Renton City Directory 1939-1940 page 46 Stokes Mortuary has an ad with the name E.H. Stokes, ph 65-J, 400 Third Ave. I looked the funeral home up in the current (January 2002) WorldPages (Pacific Coast Publishing) page 672 Faull-Stokes Mortuary 300 S. 3d Renton 425-255-8281.
Washeli's is now an Evergreen Company. The person I spoke with looked in the records to see if the ashes were in the Washelli crematorium---didn't see a listing. Phone number same source, page 673. 11111 Aurora Ave N Seattle 206-362-5200. The Renton Hospital where he died was built in 1943. It was torn down. A KMart now stands on the former hospital site. (2002)

I also looked up the Pacific Car & Foundry Co. in the Polk's Renton City Directory. The company had an ad on page 40: "Builders of Railway & Logging Cars, Log Yarders, Hoist Roadbuilders, Forgings, Castings, Structural Steel, Motor Coaches ph 15"

The company is currently called PACCAR. The corporate office is located:
777 106th NE
Bellevue, WA 98004
425-468-7400

There is a PACCAR Automotive still in Renton at 1400 N 4th Street 425-254-4600.

PACCAR began as the Seattle Car Manufacturing CO prior to 1907. Renamed the Pacific Car and Foundry in 1917 when it merged with Towhy Car Shops of Portland.

26 May 2002 Memorial Day. Henry Berry and I went to the Greenwood Cemetery in Renton to visit the gravesites of Robert, Charlotte, and Frederich LORENZ, and Victor SANDSTROM. I asked the groundskeeper to look up Elmer and Thomas CROSBY. There was no record of either. I didn't ask if there were ANY Crosby's, only the specified two.
Thomas Crosby's Death Certificate states that Mt. Olivet Cemetery was where Thomas' remains were located. 30 March 2004 Karl Schlamm phoned Mt. Olivet, and they did have a record for Thomas. Karl and Lorraine visited the cemetery on Weds 31 March 2004 and met with the superintendent, David Denesha. David showed us the plot and said that the records indicated 3 persons in the Crosby plot. Thomas, who is the only one with a headstone, a Mrs. Crosby and just Crosby followed by (c). David said that sometimes denoted cremation or child. This could be Elmer. It looked like there was a small "c" or "E" above the surname, perhaps indicating a given name initial. David was going to try and research in the old ledgers.

10 Nov 2002 Henry Berry has a group picture which includes Joe Klepach taken in 1930 at the PACCAR co. Most likely Elmer Crosby Sr. and Joe worked together in some capacity. Perhaps this is how Joe and Betty LORENZ met. See notes for Mary LORENZ.
