Haley Clan

Charlotte (nee Brown) and Nelson Cole Haley
circa 1864

The Haleys’ wedding announcement as it appeared in
the Friend issue of April, 1864

Haley was also a New England whaleman. During his second voyage, he shipped as a boatsteerer aboard the Charles W. Morgan. Years after his death, his journal from this voyage was published under the title Whale Hunt. The original manuscript was donated to Mystic Seaport, which has recently made it available for viewing in digital form on their web site.

Nelson Cole Haley, date unknown

Nelson Cole Haley,
photo presumed to be at Kahuku Ranch after 1868 volcano erruption

Captain and Mrs. Haley’s invitation to the coronation
of Kalakua and Kapiolani as king and queen of Hawai’i
(Further research is needed, but there’s a very strong probability that this was a different “Captain and Mrs. Haley”)

(The original invitation is in the archives at Mystic Seaport.)

This photo of Nelson Haley was apparently sent to one of Charlotte’s sisters at some point. It was found in a family album that belonged to Elizabeth Anne (née Heppingstone) Turner in Australia.
